In the 70s at the dealership we were told if the cars had 2PSI at warm idle they were fine. Ford trucks put back in gauges because everybody wanted an oil pressure gauge, it was nothing but a mechanical idiot light, it never moved hot, cold idle, highway.

    Hi,
Just a thought, has hacking been a big problem with the site? If the Pentagon and FBI can get hacked what are you planning to do to stop it? Is it worth the big uproar?

    Mark,

I know this is going to start a big discussion but I’m pretty sure that you don’t have to quench the brass, just the heating to dull red anneals it.

    Jim,

Run a strip of masking tape along the outside of where the moulding goes and mark the holes on the tape, when done drilling remove the tape.

    Ron,

Just a WAG but it sounds to me like the accelerator pump isn’t working correctly, maybe a partially restricted nozzle or the gasket cracked or sucked in. If it started with ether several times it’s not getting fuel.

    Dave,
That’s why I had put in a diaphragm electric pump not a quieter turbine pump, the mechanical pump will draw through a diaphragm type. Jim L

That whole thing looks like a vapor lock waiting to happen. Unless it catches fire first.

in reply to: Source for .010 gasket material #411908

When I needed some very thin gasket material I used a paper grocery bag and Hylamar Gasket sealer. It’s thin enough to soak the paper so it won’t wick and still seals. Jim L

    Mark,

On my 1930 they pushed up like you thought. The lens and bezel come off as 1 piece. On mine the plate that has the slots to hold the unit on is soldered to the bezel with the lens captured between. You might have to hold down the upholstery if it has padding. Jim L

    Jim,

I think they make a timed delay 1-2 amp fuse that might work. I’m not familiar with the P-A elec clock but if it only needs contact for an instant to wind it the fuse would handle the current for a couple of second then if the points stuck the fuse would blow. Jim L

    Ken,

I have no info on the pierce but I do have an old Fairbanks-Morse hit & miss engine with a brass plate saying sold by Steinfeld, by the time we moved here Steinfeld’s was just a jewelry store.

Maybe if things change I’ll return. I’m still going to be at the same address, phone # and email so if I can help anyone I will. Jim

Try an old chalkboard hard felt eraser and a very little thinner.
