On my Model 81 the lower water pipe connecting the radiator to the water pump was painted black but in cleaning it I found that it is brass, which polished very nicely. Would this have been painted black coming from the factory? Seems a shame to cover up that nice bit of color in the engine compartment. Jack Davis

    Jack,

The brass will only be shiny for a while and then it will go dull.

Black paint will maintain its finish longer than brass.

Personally, I have a nickel plated brass, sink-down-tube (?) as my lower radiator water pipe.

    Jack,

BTW, the pipe is brass because brass won’t RUST away as would steel.

    That certainly makes sense.
