Service bulletin 79-3 gives a very detailed steering box adjustment sequence for all ’31 models which have the Ross box. Is the procedure the same for ’32?

    Thanks,

No……..similar, but different boxes. It should be close enough. Only adjust the box out of the car on a bench. Trying it in place is impossible. I have adjusted dozens of these boxes. Pull it out, clean it out, and then adjust I in a vise. Will be fine. Ed

How about adjustment on the steering box on my 1918 Series 4 48 ?

Richard: I don’t think there is much to adjust on your ’18’s steering box.. the play in the box is usually wear on the threads, the traveling nut, the trunion that the traveling nut fits in, or the bushings for the pitman arm.

there might be an adjustment for end-play on the steering wheel shaft..

You can check for excess endplay by watching the steering wheel hub at the steering column tube. When you rock the steering wheel back and forth, the steering wheel and hub will ride up and down relative to the column/tube.

How much play do you have at the steering wheel rim?
